HENGDA-TMOS - Tetramethoxysilane

HENGDA-TMOS that can be applied neat, diluted or as part of a formulated product. Applied to natural stones or other construction materials, it forms a silica-gel like binder (SiO2) that increases the substrate strength.

It can be used as an intermediate for sol-gel process. On glass and plastic lens materials, provides a scratch-resistant, hard-coat to the finish.

It is used as crosslinkers in silicone rubber systems.

It is used as drying agents in sealing compositions.

Reactivity

It does not require acid- or alkali-catalyzed hydrolysis. It easily hydrolyses upon addition of water. Since all four methoxy groups are able to participate in this reaction, It is regarded as tetrafunctional.

Hydrolysis leads to silanol groups which, in a subsequent condensation reaction, form very stable siloxane bonds (-Si-O-Si-).
