n-Octyltriethoxysilane is an organosilane compound with the chemical formula C₁₆H₃₆O₃Si. It consists of an octyl group (C₈H₁₇) attached to a silicon atom with three ethoxy groups (-OC₂H₅).
Key aspects of n-octyltriethoxysilane:
Octyl Group (C₈H₁₇): An alkyl chain that can influence the properties of the compound.
Triethoxysilane Group (-Si(OC₂H₅)₃): Contains three ethoxy groups that can undergo hydrolysis to form silanol groups for adhesion and bonding.

1.n-Octyltriethoxysilane can be used as a surface modifier to generate hydrophobicity (e.g. on concrete, glass, inorganic pigment or mineral fillers).
2.When diluted with an appropriate solvent, n-Octyltriethoxysilane can be used in the formulation of water repellent products. Upon proper application, the formulated product will penetrate and provide water proofing performance.
3.It chemically reacts with cementitious substrate. Treated substrates are hydrophobic and retain their original appearance.
